Abstract
The proper administration of a building department demands that its supervisor, the building official, knows the legal ramifications of the action taken or not taken by the building department. This text is designed to inform the building officialof the legal aspects of his or her profession. It is not to be usedin place of the advice of a municipal attorney. The text was developed with the joint effort of the three model code organizations, BOCA, ICBO and SBCCI. It is written in a logical order with explanation of legal terms that may be unfamiliar to the building official. The tex will serve as an excellent refresher to those preparing to take the legal module of the CABO Certified Building Official examination.
