Eligibility Requirements
- A minimum of 18 months’ experience installing asphalt shingle roof systems, including flashings, valleys and various shingle types, are required. Most recent experience must be within the past 12 months.
- Passing score on an online, multiple-choice exam
- Employer validation of work experience, skills and knowledge

Hands-on Skills Assessment
Option 1: This assessment is conducted using a mockup. A Qualified Assessor guides the candidate through specific tasks. Qualified Assessors are roof system experts and independently contracted by installers and roofing contractors to administer hands-on skills assessments. Find an approved Qualified Assessor.
Option 2: Candidates can submit various forms of media, such as photos and videos of themselves performing specific tasks on a job or mockup via a mobile app (NRCA will provide a link). A Qualified Assessor will review and score the submitted work.
