Description

This eight-hour virtual course is designed to provide advanced training for individuals serving as a fall protection competent person in roofing operations. As a follow-up to the Fall-protection Trainer Course for Roofing, this course provides a comprehensive review of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart M, USACE EM 385-1-1, and ANSI Z359.2-2023 requirements specific to the competent person role.

Participants will enhance their ability to identify, evaluate and mitigate fall hazards while ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards. The course includes interactive discussions, case studies and practical applications to reinforce the critical decision-making responsibilities of a competent person.

Key topics include:

  • Regulatory compliance—Understanding Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and ANSI Z359.2-2023 requirements for competent persons and the responsibilities of the competent person role
  • Fall-protection systems and equipment—Reviewing inspection, selection, use and limitations
  • Rescue planning and emergency response—Developing site-specific fall rescue procedures
  • Program implementation and documentation—Maintaining records, training workers and ensuring ongoing compliance

This course is ideal for site supervisors, safety professionals and others designated as fall protection competent persons in roofing operations. Participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion.

*Participants should have completed the Fall-protection Trainer Course for Roofing or the Roofing Industry Fall Protection A to Z course before taking this course.

** This course, when combined with the two-day Fall-protection Trainer Course for Roofing, will satisfy the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ 24-hour fall-protection training requirement or refresher training to be designated a competent person on a USACE project.
