Abstract
This manual is a design tool and could be correctly considered as a reference manual. The manual covvers most of the major components used today to construct and maintain a commercial roof system. In addition to technical information on materials, theoretical discussion is provided. Roof theory exlains why materials and systems work together in unison or fail due to incompatibility. The manual addresses most of the major roof systems designed today with the exception of composition shingle roofing due to the simplicity of this type of system. Single ply polymeric roof systems are not discussed due to the complexity, magnitude and specialization of that particular industry. The manual also considers the environment, with green design becoming a common term in today's design community. Recyclability of materials, hazardous materials, life cycle expectancy, solutions and design options as they relate to the environment are considered.
