Abstract
Once a fire is established in a single-story building the roof will suffer more severly than other parts of the construction. With inadequate construction it is possible that a roof will contribute substantially to fire spread and large scale damage. This paper stresses the importance of knowing the behavior of a roof in a fire especially with regard to such aspects as ventilation, flame spread and hazard to adjacent buildings. A discussion of the importance of thermoplastic materials in roof construction is included.
