Abstract
This paper, presented at CRRELs First International Conference on Snow Engineering, addresses snow loads on gabe roofs. Snow load measurements, taken over 20 years, were carried out on farm buildings in inland districts with lowland areas and valleys and mountainous countryside. About 200 of the buildings were gabled roofs. The roofs were cold, ventilated roofs with no heat transfer from underneath. They had different slopes, different roofing materials and were differently exposed to the wind and to the sun. Metal roofing and other roofing materials (asbestos cement sheeting, tile, asphalt roofing and wood shinlges) were studied.
