Abstract
Oak Ridge National Lab defines sustainalbe low slope roofing as "a roofing system that addresses the issues of energy efficiency, use of materials with a lower environmental impact and embodied energy, durability wit less maintenance, and reduced waste generation throughout the life cycle from design, through construction and reroofing, to reuse and final disposal." This paper addresses each of these features as it relates to spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roofing systems. Using recent performance studies and research, this paper answers the following questions: How long do SPF roofing sytems last? What are the factors that contribute to the general costs of maintaining an SPF roof? What happebs to SPF blowing agents? What impact does SPF roofing have on the environment? What are the energy costs of producing SPF?
