Roof snow loads in deep snow regions

Abstract
This paper, presented at CRRELs First International Conference on Snow Engineering, presents interim results of the survey starteedin 1980-81 on snow load on roofs in deep snow areas of Moutn Washington near Comox, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Here the 30-year return ground snow load is greater than 24 kPa (500 psf). Recommendations are made for the design of buildings in deep snow regions and the management of heavy snow on roofs.
