Abstract
The solar industry is growing rapidly in the U.S. and abroad. Utilities are in need of reliable electricity production in urban centers, where the demand is located. Domestically produced, non-polluting and sustainable sources of electricity are required t ensure the health and security of future generations. Rooftops are clearly an ideal location for PV arrays, but, as a critical component of the building, roof-mounted arrays need to be carefully designed and installed. Collaboration among the solar industry, roofing industry, and building officials is essential to ensure that the PV and roofing systems perform reliably and safely over their intended design life.
