Abstract
This is the first of a two part series. This section addresses the effects of cool color pigments on solar reflectance and reviews the effects of climatic soiling. The reasons and methods behind a three-year regimen of testing of sample roof sytems are discussed and performance metrics will be presented in a second article showing the effectiveness of cool color pigments on clay and concrete tiles. The study was done for the California Energy Commission and is published with the approval of CEC.
