Abstract
The US roofing industry has undergone enormous changes in recent years, owing to the introduction and aggressive marketing on new single-ply materials. Research programs have focused on the interaction of different material components in the roofing assemblyh, while the need for consensus performance standards remains. Meanwhile, the industry is forced to grapple with the perplexing problems of worker health, contending with new government regulations for asbestos-containing roofing materials. And a government report forecasts acute labor shortages for our industry by the turn of the century. Through it all, US contractors remain generally optimistic, projecting an ever-larger roofing market for the coming year.
