Improving wind performance of mechanically attached single ply membrane roof systems: Lessons from Hurricane Andrew

Abstract
This paper describes mechanically attached single-plyh roofing sytems' damage and failure modes, discusses unique aspects of performance of this type of roof system in hurricane-prone regions and provides recommendations for enhanced performance in hurricane-pron and other high-wind regions. Investigated roofs include PVC, PVC blends and CSPE (Hypalon).
