Abstract
In many cases, the fastener system used on a roof can mean the difference between a leaky roof and one which is watertight and able to control wind uplift. Following is an interview with George A. Smith, Senior engineer, Factory Mutual Research Corp., an organization to whom fastener manufacturers request approval for various combinations of components. They take the manufacturer's request, put it into a construction project, analyze what would be necessary to meet specific approval requirements, and then test those criteria.
