Abstract
The sealing off of soil as a result of constuction work measures has increased cosiderably in all industrialzed countries. This, in turn, has resulted in accelerated draining of precipitation, more frequent inundation, groundwater reduction and micorclimate deterioriation. The use of the grassed roof in newly constructed buildings and in existing buildings is the only way to achieve a reduction in this sealing off of soil. Today in central Europe, thin-layer grassed roofs already store more than 50% of the precipitaiton which these roofs then give bafck into the cycle of meteorological processes due to evaporation. Grasssed roofs make suitable roof waterproofing systems last longer - twice the service life can be expected. Under the bottom line, the use of grassed roofs adds up.
