Abstract
Concrete tiles are a major factor in roofing houses and other buildings of less than five stories in most parts of the developing world. Their use in developing countries is increasing. Both the manufacturing and fixing technologies are mature. The performance, design and costing of pitched concrete tiled roofs is easy. Raw materials are available throughout the world. They are inexpensive and likely to remain so. Because of mature technology a wide range of design flexibility is available to architects. A pitched concrete tiled roof should remain watertight for at least 50 years. In the event of any damage due to high winds it is easy to identify and repairs are cheap to carry out.
