Abstract
the success of any modeling efforts depends upon the material property data used as input. To provide a firm foundation for our modeling efforts an activity was stated at the Owens Corning Fiberglass Technical Center for development of a data base of thermalphysical properties of building materials. The purpose of this paper is to review the rationale for and the activities in this effort. Deficiences in existing compiltaions of property data and the need for an expanded data base are discussd. Sources of literature data and the steps taken to collect and archive original references are described. A description is given of the steps taken to utilize the literature data. Included are details of the tabulations of property data, statistical anayses of data, and the generation of recommended sets of property values. Examples are given of information contained in a data book being prepared, including tabular and graphical displays of data, and recommended equations.
