Field uplift tests

Abstract
This data sheet describes two methods for field testing above-deck roofing assemblies on steel and other roof decks to determine if adequate wind resistance is present. Field uplift tests may be needed where inferior construction is suspected, or known to be present, or where a partial blow-off has occurred. These tests may also be used for confirmation of acceptable wind uplift resistance on recently compelted roof systems. This data sheet also discusses a possible alternative to roof uplift testing by using roof cuts to visually examine internal components of a roofing system. This data sheet does not address the uplift performance of a roof deck. The ability of the roof deck to resist wind uplift is as important as for the above-deck componenets. However, it should be noted that the uplift testing is not applicable to evaluating the uplift resistance of the roof deck.
