Abstract
The analysis method SARA determines four big groups of components into an asphaltic bitumen based on their polarity. This traditional method implies a great deal of time and, moreover, it has a large margin of error in testing. Combining thin layer chromatography (TLC) with flame ionization detector (FID), it's possible to carry out the SARA method in less time and with excellent results of repeat testing. This method, when applied to bitumen-SBS mixtures, does not let us evaluate the SBS content in the mixture. This new method develops the SARA analysis including one more fraction, so it has five fractions as a whole. This fifth fraction lets us perform a calibration based on the SBS content into the mixture and obtain a calibration curve. Through this curve, we can determine the SBS percentage contained after analyzing whichever bitumen-SBS mixture is tested.
