Abstract
Metal roofing is increasingly the choice of architects and building owners concerned with low maintenance and long service life. Its life cycle cost and attractiveness have enduring appeal. However, custom fabricated metal roof systems, following SMACNA recommendations and installed by qualified contractors, have more reliabiity than most packaged, manufactured, so called pre-engineered systems. These specifications direct attention to and, when compiled with, compel use of proper detailing and assembly. Confirmation of this is achieved through the shop drawing submittal process. Designers should consult local sheet metal contractors for special assistance needs and selection of alternatives that best fit local conditions.
