Abstract
Roof gardens, commonly referred to today as "green roofs" can be traced back to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and have been used in parts of Europe and Mexico for centuries. A green roof environmnet does not demand an entirely different roof design philosophy. The sound principles involved in the design and construcion of a conventional or protected roof membrane can be modified and/or adapted to green roofs.
