Abstract
Metal cladding has established a significant portion of the market for both roofing and side cladding, predominantly in the areas of industrial or warehouse type developments. There are various color coat systems that can be applied to either aluminum or steel substrates. A large range of different commercial products are available, but the coatings can generally be categorized into a limited number of generic types. Manufactuers' literature tends to give very limited information on product performance, and even when test data is given, the significance of the results is rarely stated. An ongoing independent test program has been developed to review the significance of results obtained by accelerated testing with the results of site exposure tests. The program has identified some key areas to consider in the specification of materials for roofings and cladding, which should reduce the likelihood of material failure.
