Abstract
In recent years, concerns have been raised about the effects of roofing-related operations on the health & safety of workers and on the contamination of the earth's atmosphere. The question arises, what ways and means can be found to insure acceptable roof performance commensurate with a healthy and safe environment for workers and an unadulterated atmosphere? This paper contends that there are practical, technically sound and economical ways to acheieve safe, healthy working conditions and a clean environment, along with rational and reasonable rules and regulations. This paper deals with two separate issues. One relates to the impact of roofing operations on the environment. The other pertains to the effects of environmental regulations on roofing and its performance. It suggests that compromises need to be found to insure a healty, safe environment and good, affordable roof performance.
