Abstract
Roofing systems are one of the most commonly damaged portions of the building envelope during high wind events. For this reason, additional emphasis has been placed in the International Building code on designing low-slope commercial roofing systems to reduce damage during high wind eventgs. Reducing damage to roof systems during high wind events requires a full system approach, including proper design of the field, perimeter, corner and edge metal of the roofing system. This presentation summarizes: 1) lessons learned from post hurricane conducted by the Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues (RICOWI) 2) SPRI standrards that can be used to design the roofing system to be in compliance with the requirements of the IBC.
