Changes coming in snow load design criteria

Abstract
In this paper, presented at CRRELs First International Conference on Snow Engineering, the author explains how ASCE subcommittee has been active in updating the snow load design criteraia in the A58 Standards. Some revisions have been made to the groun snow load maps in Minnesota and the Dakotas. Sliding snow provisions hav ebeen changed and drift load calculations have been expanded to include an appreciation for the length of the upwind roof.
