Abstract
Many materials are marketed for construction of membrane roofing systems. Each systsem uses various methods of attachment and has its own performance record. Membrane roofing includes the ssytems that can be constructed as watertight barriers on flat or low sloped roofs, such as traditional built up roofing, modified bitumen membranes, rubber sheets, thermoplastic sheets, shteet metal, and sprayed urethane foam systems., These systems also have applications on steep sloped roofs where watertightness is needed. This article discusses selection and specification of membrane rooring systems on flat roofs and focuses on the materials that have the lions share of the market: BUR, polymer modified hybrids, single ply rubber membranes and PVC.
