Abstract
In this report, a survey is given of the technical state of the art concerning the maintenance of bituminous roofing in the Netherlands. Two main categories are considered: 1) Roofings applied with "traditional" roofing materials based on coal tar or oxidized bitumen (coal-tar felt on bituminized glass fleece) 2) Roofings applied with "modern" roofing materials based on APP- or SBS-modified bitumen and reinforced with polyester mat The information regarding the first group of roofings consists of data based on the experience of roofing contractors, building owners and consultants. The information regarding the second group of roofings is based mainly on the results of a large number of inspections on five- to 12-year-old modified bituminous roofing, which have been carried out in the Netherlands.
