Abstract
Twelve roofing sytems have been installed by using four differnet types of membranes (two with plastomeric mod bit and two with PVC) and five types of thermal insulating materials. The systems consist of two inverted roofs, seven insulated roofs with heavy protection, two insulated roofs with factory appliled surfacing in mineral granules and one with protection inside the coating medium (self-protected). The systems were constructed during 1990 and, after a period of the and six years, samples of membranes were taken to assess the extent of natural aging. The results are compared with the original values and with the results obtaine dafter the artificial aging followiong the UEAtc procedures. Each system has been monitored by means of thermistorws placed at different levels into the roofing systems to measure and record continuously the temperatures achieved by the systems layers. the therma behavior of the varius sytems and how they heavy protecion can or cannot help the membrane to support the aging stresses is discussed.
