Abstract
The shingle market has changed dramatically over the past few years with the introduction of glass fiber-reinforced asphalt composition shingles. Glass fiber-reinforced shingles have virtually replaced organic felt shingles, with only a few manufacturers offering the consumer or contractor a choice of either product. Today, most built up roofing reinforcement is glass fiber. Glass fiber shingle mat commonly is manufactured on the same or similar equipment as commerical roofing mat, offering distinct manufacturing economics for suppliers of both types of materials. This article features examples of some common mistakes made while installing shingle roofs and how to avoid them.
