Abstract
A multi-facted field research program using seven different APP modified bitumen membrnes and thre types of reflective coatings began in 1991. This long-term project is intended to evalute: 1) the performance of various membranes and coatings, including comparison of the weathering effects on coated and uncoated membranes; 2) comparative performance of coating application after the membrane installation, versus coating application after the membrane has been allowed to weather; 3) thermal performance offered by coatings and 4) aspects of recoating. The last major report on this project was published in 1993. This paper will report the following: 1) the visual changes tht the membranes and coatings have experienced through Novemeber 1997; 2) results of laboratory analysis of unexposed control samples and samples taken from the roof; 3) changes in reflectivity of the coatings and exposed membranes and 4) recoating epxeriences. Conclusions and recommendations are also presented.
