Abstract
Today with the demand for air conditioning and mechanical ventilation, roofs are loaded with equipment and are work surfaces for equipoment maintenance, despite the fact that they are not intended to support such activities. This problem has become acute in recent years as the number of rooftop units has grown out of control to meet increased ventilation requirements and to satisfy computer cooling needs. In some cases, excess rooftop equipoment has created clutter, leaving roofs inaccessible for inspection, maintenance or repair.
