Abstract
This paper has identified areas of concern that need to be adddressed by a qualified structural engineer if structural concerns are raised in the review of the reroofing program. It has discussed the impact of construction loads and the potential effects of added dead load, as well as possible overloading of the roof deck in localized areas because of wind and snow. Older buildings should be carefully examined and evaluated regarding structural safety issues, especiallyif they have endured a harsh manufacturing environment for a number of years. Lack of roof maintenance can have a profound effec on the structural capacity of different types of roof decks if water damage continues unabated. A good reroofing program will properly identify and evaluate those choices thay may become safety issues.
