Abstract
Single ply roofing has been in existance since the 1960s but did not attain real popularity until the 70s. Since then, it has captured as much as 40% of the commercial roofing market; figures vary depending on the sources and what is included in the term single ply. A diversity of performance characteristics means that building owners and managers are well advised to have a basic grasp of product choices. Available in a range of formulations, thicknesses, widths, fire ratings and installation techniques, single ply membranes can accommodate almost any roofing application. Application methods must be matched to the needs of the facility and the characteristics of the type of membrane being used.
