Sunlight drives moisture through asphalt shingles

Abstract
Although a properly installed asphalt shingle roof is watertight, it probably isn't vapor-tight. Researchers in Houston, Texas and Raleigh, North Carolina have discovered that the mornin sun shining on a dew-soaked asphalt shingle roof will drive moisture through the asphalt felt and OSB sheathing into the rafter cavity. These new findings raise new caution flags.
