Sheet metal and plastic roofing

Abstract
This chapter will introduce you to the sheet and corrugated metals and plastics commonly used for roofing. Metal tile will not be discussed in this chapter. Included in this chapter is the metal materials available, physical size and weight, the advantages of metal roofing, where to use it, additional advantages and disadvantages, asphalt shingle over metal roofin, roofing over odd or geometric design, hips and ridges, valleys, joining metal sections, fascia and gutters, corrugated roofing installation, blocking and purlins, wind uplift, rake treatment, welding of corrugated metal roofing, venting a metal roof, snow removal. In the plastic roofing group the following areas are covered; fiberglass alternative, fiberglass panels, light transmission, heat transmission, size and weight, caution on fire possibilities and cleaning. The last part of this chapter contains information on preparation and painting.
