The Baffling Evidence About Ridge Vents

Abstract
A recent series of lab tests has provided convincing evidence that externally-baffled ridge vents outperform other shingle- over-ridge attic ventilation systems. The tests compared the effectiveness of various shingle over ridge ventilation systems in creating the "negative" air pressure necessary to remove or exhaust air from attic space. Of the 11 shingle-over-ridge vent products tested, only those with external baffles produced the negative air pressure crucial to an efficient ventilation system. Systems with internal baffles, or with no baffles at all, failed to create a negative air pressure.
