Abstract
At MRCA;s annual convention last year, an open forum was held on the under-deck fire performance issues of polystyrene roof insulation. UL has recently introduced a new fire test which successfully demonstrated to US that polystyrene roof insulation can be applied direct to steel deck without the need for a thermal barrier. This action caused the polyisocyanurate roof insulation manufacturers to contest the methodology and results of the new UL test, because polyisocyanurate roof insulation would no longer have the unique direct to deck approval.
