To celebrate Women in Construction Week March 2-8, NRCA asked three women in the roofing industry to share their answers to the same question: What inspires you about working in the roofing industry?
The dignity of the work that protects the homes of individuals, their families and the gathering places for all is what inspires me about this industry first. Then, it is the people who are drawn to a trade that has always been with us, protecting and sheltering, with an incredible work ethic and compassion for others, who are members of their communities and ready to serve. Of course, not all roofing contractors are cut from the same mold, but many are. I have respect for the men and women whose work can be dangerous. I admire the many women who are thriving and leading in an industry that has been mostly populated by men. I am proud of the generosity from manufacturers and contractors who donate material and labor. My career and life is richer because of this community of roofers!

What inspires me about working in the roofing industry is the incredible impact we have on communities and businesses. Every project we undertake not only provides essential protection and safety but also contributes to the value of the buildings and the communities that enjoy these buildings. It’s deeply rewarding to see the construction or transformation of a building and to know our work helps to protect these structures for years to come.

I feel blessed for the opportunity to advocate for the hardworking professionals who keep our communities safe and protected. Roofing is more than just a trade—it’s a vital industry that provides jobs, strengthens the economy and ensures the integrity of our homes and businesses. I grew up looking up to my dad, who was a welder, and that awe of building something tangible has only grown since I entered the industry. The roofing community is built on collaboration, dedication and craftsmanship, and I’m inspired every day by the people who work tirelessly to elevate the profession. Through advocacy and leadership, I hope to help create a stronger, more sustainable future for everyone in the industry.
