Three simple tips to boost your productivity

In a world full of distractions, being productive sometimes can be a challenge. But simple habits can help keep you on track so you can get more done in less time.

Inc. shares the following tips from science and productivity experts that can help you be more productive.

  1. Get some exercise. According to research published in Brain Science, regular exercise releases neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin, which increase blood flow and improve focus, reasoning abilities, memory, cognitive performance, motivation and learning abilities. You can gain benefits simply by walking 6 to 9 miles per week.
  2. Get into your flow. When you are in the zone, hours can go by and feel like minutes. Working without distractions and being able to focus can help you learn, grow and perform at your best. Four steps to help you get into a state of flow include setting clear goals to accomplish during the activity; eliminating distractions by finding a quiet environment, turning off notifications and closing unnecessary apps or tabs; identifying your peak productive times of day and schedule the challenging activity during those times; and finding the sweet spot at which the challenge slightly exceeds your skill level to create the right amount of stretching.
  3. Take frequent breaks. Many people work for hours at a time without taking breaks. Tony Schwartz, CEO of the Energy Project, says to be productive, you should concentrate solely on your most challenging and important task for 90 minutes at a time, then give your brain a rest and allow it to recharge.
