Three essential leadership behaviors

Fast Company reports 60% of new managers fail within the first 24 months, and Forbes reports 50% to 70% of new executives fail within the first 18 months.

According to Harvard Business Review, research at the Neuroleadership Institute found people must excel across three core domains of great leadership to be successful leaders.

Following are three essential leadership behaviors you must commit to as you develop professionally.

  1. Being future-focused. The more you advance in your career, the more you should think ahead. Instead of solely ensuring the quality of current work, you must constantly look for what is next and be sure your team is prepared.
  2. Being good with people. Relationships are crucial as you develop your career. The best leaders find balance between technical and social skills and between goals and people.
  3. Being able to drive realistic results. As leaders gain power, they often become more optimistic about what is achievable. Stay grounded by paying attention to the data, details and your employees’ perspectives and setting sensible targets.
