Leaders who motivate and inspire others to exceed expectations typically show their effectiveness through their actions, which stem from their character and integrity, according to Inc. Sometimes referred to as “servant leaders,” they do not pursue personal attention and instead shine the spotlight on their employees.
Inc. shares the following three leadership behaviors exhibited by “servant leaders.”
- They are selfless. These leaders realize leadership is about meeting the needs of people and, therefore, place employees’ interests ahead of their own. They may offer their time, energy and knowledge and focus on the growth of others.
- They are exceptional listeners. Active listening can lead to great work relationships and business results. Many people believe they listen well but find it difficult to avoid interrupting others. Active listeners listen intuitively to someone’s story, ask questions and search conversations for meaning and understanding that can benefit the speaker.
- They serve their employees. Leadership is about service and making those around you better. When you want to place others in a position to be their best, you elevate your influence and effectiveness as a leader. Ask yourself: What am I doing every day to improve the life of an employee?
