NRCA urges OSHA to withdraw proposed electronic reporting rule

NRCA urged the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to withdraw its proposed rule to amend certain occupational injury and illness recordkeeping reporting requirements. If finalized, the new rule—which was proposed in March—significantly would expand electronic reporting requirements for covered employers. Currently, employers with 20 or more employees in certain high-hazard industries, including roofing, are required to electronically submit their Annual Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses to OSHA. The proposed rule would require employers with 100 or more employees in such industries to also submit data electronically from OSHA Forms 300 and 301, and some of the submitted data would be made available to the public on OSHA’s website.

NRCA joined with other members of the Coalition for Workplace Safety to submit comments raising concerns regarding the proposal and strongly recommend OSHA withdraw the proposed regulation. NRCA will continue working to ensure any regulations issued by OSHA improve workplace safety and do not impose undue burdens on employers.

Election results from Colorado, Illinois, Mississippi, New York and Oklahoma

Republican Sen. James Lankford, NRCA supporter and Roofing Day in D.C. 2022 keynote speaker, won his primary race and avoided a runoff against Trump-backed challenger Jason Lahmeyer. Lankford will face off against the winner of a runoff in the Democratic primary between Madison Horn and Jason Bollinger. Oklahoma had another set of Senate primaries, and on the Republican side, Rep. Markwayne Mullin received the most votes but not enough to avoid a runoff against T.W. Shannon Aug. 23. Former Rep. Kendra Horn will face off against the winner, running unopposed in the Democratic primary to replace retiring Sen. Jim Inhofe.

Colorado Democrat Sen. Michael Bennett will face off in November against construction businessman Joe O’Dea, who beat pro-Trump candidate Ron Hanks in the GOP primary.

In Illinois, a few incumbents of note faced each other as a result of redistricting. Rep. Sean Casten beat a more progressive Rep. Marie Newman on the Democrat side, and Rep. Mary Miller, a pro-Trump candidate, beat Rep. Rodney Davis on the Republican side. Incumbent Gov. J.B. Pritzker will face off against state Sen. Darren Bailey.

Mississippi also hosted a pair of runoffs of two Republican incumbents. Rep. Steve Palazzo lost his primary after some ethics allegations, but Rep. Michael Guest, who voted in favor of creating the Jan. 6 select committee, beat his challenger.

In New York, Rep. Lee Zeldin won the Republican nomination to take on incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul, who is running for the position for the first time after taking over when Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned in late 2021.
