Texas A&M University team wins Roofing Alliance student competition

The Roofing Alliance selected a team from Texas A&M University, College Station, as the first-place winner of its 11th construction management student competition after hearing oral presentations from the finalist teams Feb. 20 during the 2025 International Roofing Expo® in San Antonio. Winners were announced during the NRCA 2025 Industry Awards and Reception Feb. 20 in San Antonio.

Members of the winning team were John Falavolito, Grayson Headley, Ryan Kennick, Hogan Leftwich and Weston Mounce.

The team from Auburn University, Auburn, Ala., placed second in the competition. Team members were Larry Jackson Fuhrman, Graham Roh, Abraham Roman, John Adam Singleton and Arjun Varadhan.

The team from Clemson University, Clemson, S.C., placed third in the competition. Team members were Tyler Brothers, Sam Davis, Drake Hamlin and Alyssa Owens.

Additionally, Arjun Varadhan from Auburn University received the first-place award for Best Individual Student Presenter, and Cheyenne Campbell from University of North Florida, Jacksonville, received the second-place award for Best Individual Student Presenter.

Ten teams competed in the student competition, and six were selected as finalists to present live at IRE. The six finalist teams were: Auburn University, Auburn Ala.; Bradley University, Peoria, Ill..; California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; Clemson University, Clemson, S.C.; Texas A&M University, College Station; and University of North Florida, Jacksonville.

This year, the teams were tasked with submitting a qualified bid package for the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Antonio Airport Hotel. Teams researched the chosen project; submitted a qualified bid package proposal; and provided an oral presentation to illustrate their roofing, project management, estimating and safety knowledge.

The first-place team received a team trophy, a $5,000 L.B. Conway scholarship for its school and individual awards. The second-place team received a team trophy, a $2,500 Fred Good scholarship for their school and individual awards. The third-place team received a team trophy, a $1,000 scholarship for their school and individual awards.

The first-place Best Individual Student Presenter received a $300 gift card, and the second-place Best Individual Student Presenter received a $200 gift card.
