As part of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s National Safety Stand-Down Sept. 14-18, OSHA will hold a stand-down kickoff webinar Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. EDT.
Falls remain the leading cause of death among construction workers, and thousands more suffer serious injuries because they lack the right safety equipment and/or the knowledge and training to prevent falls. Each year, during the National Safety Stand-Down, employers and workers take a break to focus on preventing falls as part the National Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction. This year, business leaders, labor organizations, community groups and other construction industry stakeholders will participate in virtual or socially distanced stand-down events from Sept. 14–18.
To kick off the week, leaders from OSHA, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and CPWR—The Center for Construction Research and Training will share some of the latest data trends and new fall prevention resources to use during the week and beyond.
Webinar speakers will include Loren Sweatt, principal deputy assistant secretary of labor for occupational safety and health; Scott Ketchum, director of OSHA’s Directorate of Construction; John Howard, director of NIOSH; Scott Earnest, director of the Office of Construction Safety and Health for NIOSH; and Chris Trahan Cain, executive director of CPWR.
