Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspectors again have cited Avila’s Roofing LLC, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., for exposing employees to falls, according to OSHA. The company is not an NRCA member.
In February 2023, inspectors observed employees of Avila’s Roofing working at heights of up to 27 feet without fall protection on the roof of a commercial building in Honesdale, Pa. They also learned the company had not provided employees with effective training regarding fall hazards and allowed employees to work without eye and face protection when there were potential risks of eye or face injury.
OSHA cited Avila’s Roofing for two willful and two serious safety violations and one other-than-serious violation. The company faces $328,143 in proposed penalties.
In five inspections of Avila’s Roofing worksites in Honesdale and Scranton, Pa., OSHA has proposed $178,649 in penalties for repeated failures to comply with federal fall-protection requirements.
