Every year, employees at NRCA member Horch Roofing, Warren, Maine, choose a charitable cause, and the company’s Responsible Giving Committee works with local charities to honor that goal. With the COVID-19 pandemic highlighting an even greater need for food assistance in Maine, the company’s goal this year is to support organizations working to end hunger.
Horch Roofing partnered with Good Shepherd Food Bank and pledged to donate $200 from its Charitable Giving Fund every time a client signed a residential asphalt or metal roofing contract of more than $7,500 during June and July. The initial goal was to donate a minimum of $10,000 for food assistance through the food bank, but with 81 roofing clients signed in June and July, Horch Roofing was able to donate $16,200 to the organization.
“The goal was not just to donate but to raise awareness about Good Shepherd and their role in providing food assistance throughout the state,” said Horch Roofing President Peter Horch. “I was really moved by and proud of our team going out there, educating our clients, and in-turn, pushing our donation total higher.”
On Aug. 21, Horch presented Erin Fogg, vice president of development at Good Shepherd Food Bank, with a check via Zoom call. According to the food bank, this donation will allow the organization to purchase more than 50,000 meals.
