NRCA and CNA, Chicago, have announced Double D Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc., York, Pa., as the grand prize winner of the CNA/NRCA Community Involvement Award, which honors charitable works performed by NRCA contractor members between Jan. 1, 2017, and Dec. 31, 2017.
Double D Roofing & Sheet Metal, York, Pa., won the award for its work with Shadowfax, an organization that provides services to mentally, emotionally and physically challenged individuals and finds them meaningful work. The company ships Firestone Building Products' screws and metal insulation plates to Shadowfax, and workers pre-assemble the screws and plates to be installed on roof systems. CNA awarded Double D Roofing & Sheet Metal with $7,500 for its charity.
The second-place winner was Action Roofing Hawaii, Kapolei, for its work with Kahuaiki Project Homes for the Homeless Families of Hawaii. To combat Hawaii's growing homeless situation, Action Roofing Hawaii donated materials and labor to install new standing-seam metal roof systems for Kahauiki Villages, a project that helps homeless families settle into long-term, affordable housing. CNA awarded Action Roofing Hawaii with $5,000 for its charity.
The third-place winner was O'LYN Roofing, Norwood, Mass., for contributing to The Home for Little Wanderers, whose mission is to ensure the healthy behavioral, emotional, social and educational development and physical well-being of at-risk children and families. Their organization's biggest event is the annual Big Wishes Gift Drive, when O'LYN Roofing adopts a needy family, and all staff members contribute one or more items from the family's wish list. CNA awarded O'LYN Roofing with $2,500 for its charity.
Additionally, the CNA/NRCA Community Involvement Award added a People's Choice category this year, and the winner was chosen via online voting. Tecta America Southeast, Cumming, Ga., won the People's Choice Award for its work with Special Kneads and Treats, a nonprofit specialty goods company that provides special needs adults a place of employment to learn a skill and develop a sense of accountability and pride in their work. Tecta America Southeast acquired roofing material and donated labor to replace the nonprofit's roof system. CNA awarded Tecta America Southeast with $1,500 for its charity.
The awards were presented Feb. 7 at NRCA's Industry Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception, which was held during NRCA's 131st Annual Convention in New Orleans.
