HIOSH fines roofing contractor for repeat fall-protection violations

Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health (HIOSH) has issued five citations and $102,313 in penalties to Rui Construction Inc., Honolulu, for exposing workers to fall hazards, according to www.osha.gov. The company is not an NRCA member.

HIOSH observed four employees installing roof sheathing 20 feet above the ground with no fall protection, as well as an employee with no eye protection using a rigid pneumatic nail gun with an unknown serial number.

HIOSH inspectors concluded the company failed to provide adequate fall protection and personal protection equipment and train workers regarding fall hazards. The company was previously cited for these violations in 2014, 2015 and 2017.
