On Sept. 24, the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force issued guidelines for federal contractors and subcontractors regarding vaccination of employees against COVID-19. These guidelines are designed to implement President Biden’s Executive Order 14042, Ensuring Adequate COVID Safety Protocols for Federal Contractors, issued Sept. 9.
Once effective, qualifying federal contractors and subcontractors will be required to ensure their employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The guidance outlines which contractors and subcontractors will be subject to the new requirement and contains certain exemptions. The requirement for vaccination of covered contractors’ employees extends to all tiers of contracts regardless of the size of the business.
Key dates of implementation for 2021 include:
- Oct. 8—The Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council will have contract language for agencies to insert into their contracts.
- Oct. 15—Contracts or extensions entered after this date will be covered by the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council language.
- Dec. 8—Contractor employees must be fully vaccinated.
