Fatigue increases risk in the workplace

Construction work requires strength, caution and concentration. When you experience fatigue, it can negatively affect you physically and mentally, leading to increased risks in the workplace for you and your co-workers, according to Safety+Health magazine.

Construction workers sometimes work long hours and have long commutes, so it is important to recognize fatigue and take care of yourself.

Safety+Health magazine shares the following tips to combat fatigue.

  • Try to get at least seven hours of sleep every night.
  • When possible, eat your meals, go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.
  • Choose relaxing activities, such as taking a warm bath or stretching, and do them before bed every night.
  • Do not nap later in the day.

If you believe you are too tired to perform your job safely, be sure to talk to a supervisor so you do not put yourself or anyone else at risk.
