Dallas Fort Worth International Airport will spend as much as $3.5 billion for an expansion plan that includes a sixth terminal to accommodate American Airlines growth, according to Bloomberg Law.
Updates include as many as 24 gates scheduled to open in 2025 for the new terminal, as well as renovations to modernize Terminal C.
American Airlines accounts for more than 80% of current flights at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, which is the fourth busiest airport by passengers in the U.S. Although it has expanded regarding international travel it still lags behind Atlanta and Houston regarding international traffic.
The hub saw a record 69 million passengers in 2018 and predicts more passenger and flight growth during the next two years than during the past 20.
